ShapeeroMurray is a new gallery run by artists Beth Shapeero and Andy Murray. Initiated in 2023 in response to the current funding climate and lack of financial stability faced by the majority of artists working in Scotland, the artist-led gallery aims to connect artists with new markets and build a more sustainable future for their practice.

As artists themselves, Beth and Andy bring a first-hand understanding of what it means to make and sustain a creative practice. This artist-led approach informs every aspect of the gallery, from the artists they work with to the opportunities they create. Their deep connections across Scotland’s art community also enable ShapeeroMurray to champion artists who remain underrepresented within the commercial gallery system.

ShapeeroMurray’s mission is to build a platform for artists, helping them access markets and create new opportunities that might otherwise remain beyond reach. The gallery seeks to challenge the status quo and hierarchical structures of the commercial art world, advocating for a fairer and more equitable distribution of resources and capital.

At its core, ShapeeroMurray is committed to recognising talent, ambition and sustained commitment in artists, while protecting their autonomy and creating the conditions for remarkable practices to continue to develop and thrive.
